Ethics and HIPAA.

This course meets the BACB requirement to receive 3 Continuing Education Hours in Ethics currently in effect for certification renewal.  It also meets the APA Ethics CE requirements for psychologists.  The focus of this course is on HIPAA (Health Information Portability and Accountability ACT) laws and standards for Healthcare providers to ensure that patient Personal Healthcare Information is protected. Relevant BACB Guidelines for Responsible Conduct of Behavior Analysts (2004), and the APA Ethics Code (2002) are also reviewed.

Punishment & Child Discipline:  Facts, Myths & Principles

This 6 credit CE course provides the professional with a conceptual knowledge of punishment, contrasting a procedural versus outcome-oriented definition. The book, Punishment on Trial: A Resource Guide to Child Discipline (free on-line) is the main source of the material for the course.  Following a conceptual understanding of outcome-oriented punishment (Section I), several myths regarding punishment are examined (Section II). The basic principles in using punishment contingencies are detailed in Section  III of the book.  Finally, a responsible model for using punishment in solving child behavior problems is given (Section IV).
